Been back from KK for a few days now, settling back into my KL lifestyle once again.
After a 4 week absence from KL, I am glad to be back home. Note that I actually came back from "home" which is KK, but I have grown so much accustomed to my life in KL, that I have now regarded KL as my "home". Obviously, the phrase " Home is where the heart is" comes to mind once again.
4 weeks in KK meant 3 weeks doing my Moore Theological Studies as well as an extra week spent with my family celebrating Chinese New Year.
I really thank God for the opportunity to spend this time with my family. It's been awhile since we've all been together under one roof and just spent some time together. May not be as long and as fun, but family time is family time, and I still appreciate it.
After such a long time, I finally had the chance to go for CNY Night Market, I've mentioned this before, but for those who have just started reading this blog, let me clarify some things for you.
Back in KK, I don't want to saya Sabah cause I doubt that I can speak for the whole of Sabah, we have night markets during CNY. You must think to yourself, yea, there's night market here in Klang Valley all the time, but our's only happens once a year, Night market I mean. Other than the normal tamu/pasar pagi in certain areas of KK, we also have Gaya Street market, Tamu KPD ( farmer's market of sorts ) and so on. But once a year, there will be certain areas in KK, like KK Town itself, Foh Sang, and Lido, which will open a 12 hour round the clock market the night before the Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner. This is the time, for all the aunties and uncles to come out and buy all that they need for their reunion dinner.
This year, we went to 2 Night Markets, Foh Sang, then Lido. We didn't really buy too many things, when you really look at it, we only bought ingredients for one particular dish, hahaha, everything else, we already have back at home. But it was more of the atmosphere, the lanterns and the chinese new year songs playing in the background which we like, one can say that we went to the CNY Night Markets to capture the feel of CNY...
Other than that, it was rather typical for me in KK. Spent the bulk of my time watching Fun Asia or Fun Taiwan ( Janet Hsieh is unbelievably attractive to me, for the life of me I dunno why.. hahaha ), and also Australia Junior Masterchef ( I'll explain more about this later ).
A lot of shops were closed, but a lot of shops were opened as well. When you live in a small town, where most if not all shops are family owned, the shops or restaurants will usually be closed during the first 2-3 days of CNY. But now with all the development and progress in our "Shopping Mall Industry", quite a lot of shops are still opened, albeit the fact that there aren't many people in them. So I spend my days walking around shopping malls, sitting in cafes and going online with my laptops whilst contemplating my future in my career as well as my own personal endeavors.
Australia Junior Masterchef could most probably be the latest craze for me and let me tell you why.. You have kids from the age of 8 - 13 all competing in a cooking competition, and you must think," Awww, that's so cute.." Yes, most of them are, but the dishes that they come up with are way beyond their years. Most of the time, their dishes put our own culinary students to shame, and these are children who learnt cooking from their parents or grandparents. Words like duxxel, truffles, reduction and baklava are used, and all this while, I've just been making spaghetti or maggee goreng mamak. It's time to up the ante and start doing some serious work in the kitchen Darren...
Speaking of food, I think I just got a little fatter...again, I still don't understand how some people can eat so much and still maintain the same weight. A friend of mine lamented that instead of getting fatter, she got thinner, even though she ate so much more than she usually does, mind boggling isn't it... I guess it's only proper then since when I was in KK, I have rekindled my interest in both cooking and exercising, let's just make sure that there's a balance in both these things.
Till next time then, God bless...
ps: I've been meaning to try rabbit for quite some time now, anyone care to join me ?
