I've always been a fan of comic books. Specifically Marvel comics. I started by reading X-Men, after having seen the first film, I bought my first Marvel comic. I've always been a big fan of Wolverine and the X-Men, never into anything else. By the time I entered The One Academy as a student. I bought a copy of Secret War, this is the 2003 story, not to be confused with the old Secret Wars. Anyways, from this comic itself, I realised that this one character, Captain America was a man to be reckoned with. He's not a mutant, yet he fights with precision, he has strong values, and he's one heck of a leader. I was always wondering why everyone had such a high respect for him. Of course eventually I have had the chance to read mire and more stories of him, and Captain America became one of my favourite comic book heroes of all time.Imagine my glee, yes, I'm using the word "glee" when I found out that a movie about said character was going to be made. I was optimistic with the actor they chose, and everyone else seemed to look the part. And I was also nervous that the director might screw up the film. to be fair, every comic book geek would feel the same way.
I had the opportunity to watch Captain America The First Avenger with my cell group last Thursday. It was something I wanted to do with them before I leave for 3 weeks.
How was the movie? For those who just want to know the ratings, I'd give it a 4.5/5. Yea, I'm that serious.
Why? Overall, I'd say it was a safe film. Nothing much to complain about, they did everything safely and perhaps some might even say that it was not ambitious enough. Either ways, it was all fun for me. Action wise I believe they did alright, though like I said before, it does look like the;re playing safe with it, so everything kinda looks calculated. I also wished that the fight between Captain America and the Red Skull could've been longer and more exciting, it reminded me of the final fight between Thor and Loki, everyone knows that Thor would win, so why bother ...hahaha... But Red Skull is actually similar to Captain America, so one would expect a little bit more.
The fact that a bulk of the movie happened in the 40s', it gave me a weird sense of nostalgia. Even though I was nowhere when all those things happened. I felt like I was there and was experiencing the whole thing. What can I say, I am just a sucker for old films and anything vintage.
I must comment on the dynamic between the characters. All the actors played their roles perfectly. Though I would just be commenting on two for now.

It would only be fair that I comment on Chris Evans, who is the actor for the title character, Captain America. many had doubts about him holding this film but I'd have to say that I was one of the few who didn't have much doubts on this guy. He did a great job in showing that though he was a weak man, physically, but has a set of moral values that is admirable to anyone. Not to mention he's physic post-serum, and I'm commenting on his super soldier body, this guy is just an inspiration to all unfit, unhealthy lads out there...hahaha... But overall, he did a great job, and it seemed like he could really pull off the role as a leader, knowing that Captain America will eventually lead the Avengers, obviously consisting of some of the biggest characters in Marvel, played by some of the biggest actors and actresses in Hollywood, so kudos to Chris Evans.

Next one, obviously I'm going to refer to Hayley Atwell, who plays the love interest of Captain America, Peggy Carter. For those who do not know, Captain America will eventually be dating her grandniece, yes, if it sounds weird, watch the movie, and it will make all the sense in the world. Hayley At well, is by herself a force to be reckoned with. I'd have to admit I am beginning to like watching these English actresses more and more. Hayley Atwell being the obvious choice, then of course there;s Alice Eve, which ironically was also in the running for the character of Peggy Carter before the role eventually went to Hayley Atwell. So far, the relationship dynamic between Captain America and Peggy Carter is by far the most convincing, in comparison with all the romantic connections of our heroes in the previous Marvel movies. Before I go there, I'd just have to comment on what a wonderful actress she is, it is truly a fine line to walk between sophisticated, sensual lady and independent, tough woman. But she did it perfectly. I have to admit that I am currently quite infatuated by her.
The romance between them was so convincing, that when they had to part, yes, major spoilers for everyone, I left the cinema feeling rather dissatisfied. It wasn't much about dissatisfaction for the movie, but it as that bitter sweet feeling I had for the characters. I actually seriously felt for these characters,a nd coming from a comic book movie, that says a lot.
Overall, Captain America, The First Avenger, is a fun entertaining movie, with good acting, a fair plot, and basically a movie for all to enjoy. Oh, and did I say that it was quite funny as well? Seriously, it is. So there you go, my review for the movie. I could've written a lot more, but my laptop battery is dying out so this is what I have so far.
I hope everyone catches this movie cause well, it's just awesome. Or maybe it's just me.
Oh and seriously, wait for the credits to end for a very interestingly awesome clip... Guys, you don't want to miss this...
Till next time, God bless guys.
